CANADIAN RECORD SUSPENSIONS (RECORD SUSPENSIONS)

Move Forward with a Clear, Structured Process

A criminal conviction in Canada can continue to affect employment, travel, housing, and other opportunities long after a sentence has been completed. A Record Suspension (formerly known as a Pardon) is a formal process that separates eligible criminal records from active records held within the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), subject to applicable law and exceptions.

Nationwide provides application support to assist individuals with preparing Record Suspension applications in accordance with current requirements. Our role is to help organize records, complete required forms accurately, and ensure applications are prepared clearly and consistently prior to submission.

All eligibility assessments and final decisions are made solely by the Parole Board of Canada.

WHY A RECORD SUSPENSION MAY MATTER

  • Reduce disclosure of eligible criminal records in standard background checks
  • Support access to employment and volunteer opportunities where background checks are required
  • Reduce barriers related to housing, education, and professional licensing
  • Support personal rehabilitation and reintegration efforts
  • Allow individuals to move forward with greater privacy and confidence

ELIGIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS

  • All sentences must be completed, including fines, restitution, probation, and parole
  • Required waiting periods must be met following the completion of the last sentence
  • Summary offences: minimum waiting period generally applies
  • Indictable offences: longer waiting periods generally apply
  • Waiting periods are calculated from the date the sentence was fully completed, not the arrest date
